Edo Muslim group vows to sue state govt over alleged plan to ban hijab

—MUSLIM organisations under the aegis of Edo Muslims for Equity and Good Governance, EMEGG, have threatened to institute a legal action against Edo State Government if it carries out its threat to ban the wearing of hijab by Muslim female students in public schools.
Sirajudeen Muhammad, Coordinator of the group, who made the disclosure in a statement in Benin City, yesterday, referred to a recent circular released by the state Ministry of Education of plans to ban the wearing of hijab by Muslim female students in public schools.
He alleged that the circular was issued under the watch of the state governor whose mother is a Muslim.
He said: “In your move to rid the public schools system of every trace of Islam, you have raised your Islamic phobic tendencies to another level with the intent to ban hijabs in our public schools as contained in a circular released by the Ministry of Education under your watch. “We thus advise that you retrace your step or be prepared to face a legal battle of unprecedented proportion."
