Rio Olympics: Dream Team VI victory removes shame for Nigeria

- Ex-Enyimba keeper, Idah Peterside, says the National U-23 team`s 3-2 win over Honduras has taken away shame for Nigeria in the on-going Rio Olympic Games.
Peterside, also a former keeper of Israeli club, Macabi Hazelia, on phone from Johannesburg, South Africa, on Saturday that the bronze medal won by the team was a huge relief for the country.
``We are very proud of the boys. Football has proved that it is the number one game in the country.
``Those in charge of sports in the country should accord the game the priority it deserves because it is has once again done the nation proud,” he said.
According to Peterside, the team`s victory has taken away shame and disgrace for the country and they deserve to be praised.
`` I say congratulations to coach Sampson Siasia, team Captain Mike Obi and the rest of the team for doing the nation proud. They deserve commendation and we are proud of them,” he said.
He also said the invitation given to some of the players for the Nations cup match against Tanzania was good.
`` The players are young and we can begin to use some of them for the 2018 World Cup qualifying matches.
`` The players need the exposure to mature and form the new Super Eagles team.
`` I am optimistic that the Nigeria Football Federation is aware of the exploits of these players and have good plans for them,” Peterside stated.
