3 things to do instead of comparing yourself to others

Well…apparently, humans are competitive in nature. We compare ourselves to others almost all the time; “The other person is so much “cooler” than I am.” ” She/he know how to please the boss, better than I do.” and it the list goes on.
However, it’s normal to see your flaws in other people’s strengths. Instead of engaging in unhealthy comparisons, below are tips on how to give you a confidence boost:
1. List your accomplishments:
Stop the self depreciation and take time to list your own achievements by writing them down. Whether short-term or long-term, start by listing things you are proud of daily, weekly, yearly or for your lifetime. By putting them down on paper, you are making them real, tangible and noteworthy. Notice how long it is and how far you have come and then give yourself a pat on the back.

2. Set goals:
The benefit of comparison is that you can use it to push yourself to be better as well. You can’t become someone else, but you can learn from their successes and adopt their strategies, ideologies and learning pattern. Do your homework on how to get to your desired destination.

3. Ask questions:
Knowledge is best used when shared. Do not be afraid to compliment successful people in your organisations, ask questions and get a bit insight into what makes them awesome. Use social media to your advantage. Reach out to your hero on LinkedIn with a personalised message and see if he/she would be willing to discuss his career experience. Ask a colleague if she could give you feed back on your presentation, because she is good in public speaking. You could grab lunch with a friend that has knack for problem solving.
Just keep improving yourself and stop the comparison, it doesn’t help in the long run.
