Labour shut Nasarawa over pay cut

The Nasarawa State Chapters of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) yesterday shutdown the activities of government in the state over workers’salaries cut by 50 percent. NLC Chairman, Com Abdullahi Adeka, and that of the TUC Danladi Sabo-Namo,  who announced  the actions of the union while briefing newsmen in Lafia said the indefinite strike action by the workers in the state was due to the failure of the state government to honour the demand of the union by refusing to reverse its decision on the salaries cut by over 50 percent.

“We staged a peaceful protest to the government house on Monday where we made it clear to the government to rescind on its decision or face strike action by the workers. We told the Deputy Governor who received us on behalf of the governor that at the close of work on Monday, government must reverse the workers unfriendly decision or face strike,” he stressed. According to Adeka , “since the government has chose to remain adamant, the unions  were left with no options using the available weapon which is strike to press home its demands until the government return and maintain the status-quo” he added.

On his part, the TUC Chairman Com Danladi Sabo  accused the government of using the Permanent Secretaries and Directors to intimidate the  workers. Sabo who called on all categories of workers in the payroll of the government of the state to continue to remain at home until they receive further  directive form the union  however commended all workers in the state for their usual cooperation and assured them that there would be light at the end of the tunnel.
